Newsong is a Holistic Missional Christian Community called to serve and represent Jesus. Newsong members proclaim the good news of His Kingdom with words and actions locally and across the globe and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, follow the example of Jesus by loving sacrificially and fearlessly.
Newsong is committed to a beautiful experience of multi-cultural diversity where life is intentionally done with the “other.”
At Newsong, everyone is welcome to our community of faith and affirmed in their unique identity. We endeavor to love, accept, and include every person. Jesus invites us to come just as we are, as people created in the image of God. God loves people regardless of race, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, immigration status, neurodiversity, or political persuasion. This is our vision as well.
From its inception, Newsong has been “the home of the misfits.” Newsong strives to be a church home where everyone is welcomed, a church community where everyone can belong, and participate in every aspect of the church.
Our vision of an inclusive community is not simple, formulaic, or code for a particular political tribe. We recognize there are significant matters where we don’t agree. At Newsong, we press into meaningful, even difficult, conversations with others. The purpose of these conversations is not necessarily agreement but listening, understanding and respecting one another. It’s what we call the hard work of love. [i]
At Newsong, we invite everyone to the table. At this table, we hear each other’s stories, honor all voices, and if necessary, ask for grace from each other should we misstep along our journey of learning and understanding.
Jesus calls us to love our neighbors. We define neighbor as someone not like us.
Love guides us in all the decisions of how we live out what we believe about God and how we relate to one another. We believe that the maturity of our faith is expressed in the way we love and who we love. Love calls us to continually address power dynamics wherever they exist, especially when those with power overlook the vulnerable and marginalized. We endeavor to invest in the flourishing of all people especially those considered different than us or who have been excluded from positions of power or access to power.
Newsong has a rich representation of backgrounds, histories, and traditions, which means we won’t all be in perfect alignment with one another yet we are called to live in this discomfort. There is beauty in our diversity. The more diverse we are, the more we believe people can experience God.
