DESCRIPTION:Usher in the new year by joining us for January’s Monthly Morning Prayer with our dear guest Yousef AlKhouri. \nYousef identifies himself as a Christian Arab Palestinian. He was born in Gaza to a Christian family that has a long heritage of serving in the priesthood of the Greek Orthodox Church. \nHe is married to Merna and they live in Bethlehem\, Palestine. Yousef has written several poems in Arabic. In 2007\, he published his first poetry collection under the title “You are Not My Beloved.” \nIn addition to teaching at Bethlehem Bible College and lecturing to international groups on the Palestinian Israeli conflict\, Yousef is also involved in Christ at the Checkpoint Conference. He enjoys reading\, writing\, and teaching. He loves music\, nature\, and traveling. \nJoin him in conversation with Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove on 1 Jan 2024 at 9 AM ET! DESCRIPTION:Join Father Adam Bucko in conversation with RLC’S Mary Grace Puszka to discuss “Let Your Heartbreak Be Your Guide: Lessons in Engaged Contemplation” (Orbis Books\, 2022). Written against the backdrop of the pandemic and America’s reckoning with growing poverty\, injustice and systemic racism\, this book is uniquely positioned to accompany us through the disillusionment and violence of trying times. It offers reflections\, stories\, and insights from Adam Bucko’s years of prayer and activism\, including in the streets with homeless and LGBTQ youth\, in new monastic communities across the world\, and as an Episcopal priest in an engaged contemplative community. \nIndeed\, Father Adam Bucko has been a committed voice in the movement for the renewal of Christian Contemplative Spirituality and the growing New Monastic movement. He has taught engaged contemplative spirituality in Europe and the United States and has authored “Let Your Heartbreak be Your Guide: Lessons in Engaged Contemplation” and co-authored “Occupy Spirituality: A Radical Vision for a New Generation” and “The New Monasticism: An Interspiritual Manifesto for Contemplative Living.” \nCommitted to an integration of contemplation and just practice\, he cofounded an award-winning non-profit\, the Reciprocity Foundation\, where he spent 15 years working with homeless youth living on the streets of New York City\, providing spiritual care\, developing programs to end youth homelessness\, and articulating a vision for spiritual mentoring in a post-religious world. DESCRIPTION:As a part of our Professional Training Series to equip our movement for effective direct action\, we are delighted to have Guthrie Graves-Fitzsimmons lead us with a webinar in “How to Write an Op-ed” where you will learn to craft concise\, effective\, and prophetic commentary. \nPublishing an op-ed is a powerful tool to speak out against Christian nationalism and present an alternative Christian witness to the public. This in-depth training will guide you from picking an idea\, drafting your content\, and pitching it to a news outlet for them to publish. We’ll discuss popular outlets and who decides what gets published and why. You will depart the training ready to place your first op-ed\, or new ideas for seasoned writers. \nThe training is led by Guthrie Graves-Fitzsimmons\, who has written or ghost-written more than 200 op-eds in the New York Times\, Washington Post\, MSNBC\, CNN\, and many other publications. He’s currently the Communications Director at BJC. He earned his undergraduate degree from American University in Washington\, D.C.\, and his Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.
