SUMMARY:Hope for the Holy Land? A Space for Pastors to Ask Questions Imperfectly
DESCRIPTION:With all the violence and all the commentary on the crisis in Israel\, Gaza\, and the West Bank\, pastors are being called upon by their congregations to offer answers. \nYet where do our faith leaders go to ask their own questions…and to do so imperfectly? \nIn this session\, join Network of Evangelicals for the Middle East (NEME) leadership team members Dr. Jer Swigart (Global Immersion) and Dr. Rob Dalrymple (Determinetruth) in an unrecorded session for pastors and ministry leaders. \nTogether\, they’ll hold space for pastors and ministry leaders to be imperfect and incomplete in your curiosity and offer some scaffolding for how you can hold space like this for others. \nRegister for Connection Details\nFor more information\, please visit the Global Immersion website.

SUMMARY:🕊️ Peace on Earth & the Politics of Christmas 🕊️
DESCRIPTION:The Alternative Seminary and\nKirkridge Retreat and Study Center Invite You\nCan we liberate Christmas from its cultural captivity and rediscover the truly prophetic story that speaks to the crises of our world today?\nPeace On Earth and the\nPolitics of Christmas\n\nA VIRTUAL PROGRAM\n\nSaturday morning\, December 2\, 2023\n10:30 am – 12:30 pm EST\nMuch of the Christian church in the United States has been co-opted by an American gospel of prosperity\, racism\, violence\, and militant nationalism. The celebration of Christmas is a victim of that co-optation: It is wrapped in innocent\, Hallmark-card imagery. But in fact\, the biblical texts describing the coming of Jesus are making powerful assertions about the politics of the Bible that speak very much to our contemporary global crises.  In this virtual program\, we will explore the “nativity narratives” in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke to see how they express core biblical themes of justice and liberation.  We will “un-domesticate” these stories and reflect on how they are truly challenging us to a revolutionary discipleship – an especially urgent need as we witness more violence in Jesus’ homeland. This program will be facilitated by Will O’Brien\, coordinator of The Alternative Seminary. A perfect event for Advent. \nRegistration is required.  The cost for the program is $20 donation (or whatever you can afford).Register today!   https://bit.ly/PoliticsofChristmas2023\nOur Facebook page is here.\nFor more information contact Will O’Brien at (267) 339-8989 or willobrien59@gmail.com\n\nThe Alternative Seminary is a program of biblical and theological study and reflection designed to foster an authentic biblical witness in the modern world. \nThe Kirkridge Retreat and Study Center is a progressive Christian and interfaith retreat center in the beautiful Pocono mountains just an hour and a half north of Philadelphia.  It has provided a place for rest and renewal to pilgrims along life’s journey. Our retreats\, our hospitality\, our gorgeous vistas\, and our sacred grounds have blessed\, and continue to bless\, countless lives.

SUMMARY:RLC Book Club with Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb
DESCRIPTION:Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb is founder and president of Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem\, Palestine. Raheb is the most widely published Palestinian theologian to date\, including his Orbis books Faith in the Face of Empire and\, with Suzanne Henderson\, The Cross in Contexts: Suffering and Redemption in Palestine. He received the 2017 Tolerance Ring Award from the European Academy of Arts and Sciences\, the 2015 Olof Palme Prize\, the 2012 German Media Prize\, the 2006 International Mohammad Nafi Tschelebi Peace Award\, and the 2007 German Peace Award of Aachen. He holds a doctorate in theology from Philipps University\, Marburg\, Germany\, and an honorary doctorate from Concordia University\, Chicago. \nWe will be discussing his book “Decolonizing Palestine” challenges the weaponization of biblical texts to support the current settler-colonial state of Israel. Raheb argues that some of the most important theological concepts –Israel\, the land\, election\, and chosen people – must be decolonized in a paradigm shift in Christian theological thinking about Palestine. Decolonizing Palestine is a timely book that builds on the latest research in settler-colonialism and human rights to place traditional theological themes within the wider socio-political context of settler colonialism as it is practiced by the modern nation-state of Israel. Written by a native Palestinian Christian theologian who continues to live in the region\, Decolonizing Palestine provides an insider’s perspective that disrupts hegemonic and imperialist narratives about the region. \nHe will be in conversation with Shane Claiborne and we’ll also feature another important work of Dr. Mitri’s\, “Faith in the Face of Empire.” \nFind us streaming live on Red Letter Christian’s Facebook\, Twitter\, or YouTube channels and register to join us on Zoom: \nRegister Here Now or join us live on Facebook or YouTube.

SUMMARY:Christ in the Rubble: A Liturgy of Lament
DESCRIPTION:This Advent\, while global Christians prepare to commemorate the arrival of the Prince of Peace\, our Palestinian kin in Gaza suffer unthinkable violence. Their cries for deliverance\, echoing those of two millennia ago\, seem to be falling unheard in the United States. \n\nTo see their pain and hear their cries\, US Christians must move beyond information to transformation…from webinar to worship. \nOn 23 December 2023\, a number of organizations (Global Immersion\, Red Letter Christians\, Churches for Middle East Peace\, Network of Evangelicals for the Middle East\, and more) are joining forces in solidarity to simulcast a live worship gathering guided by Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac and his team at Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem at 6 PM Bethlehem Time (11 AM ET/8 AM PT). \nCentral to this liturgy of lament will be their prophetic message that if Jesus was born today\, he would be born “under the rubble.” \n \n\n\nLet us know you’re coming and stay in touch with Red Letter Christians by filling out the form below.
