DESCRIPTION:Tennessee has scheduled Tony Carruthers for execution on May 21\, 2026\, for the 1994 murders of Marcellos Anderson\, Delois Anderson\, and Frederick Tucker. \n\nThe following has been shared by the US Campaign to End the Death Penalty and Tennesseans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty: \nTennessee intends to move forward with Tony’s execution despite the fact that the State refuses to carry out basic forensic testing(fingerprint and DNA) that could exculpate him. \n\nNo physical evidence linking Tony to the crime\nConvictions rest on the testimony of paid jailhouse informants\nFingerprints and DNA from the crime scene don’t match Tony\n\nOne of the individuals who participated in the murder said that Tony wasn’t involved\, and instead directed law enforcement to Ronnie Irving — State refuses to test DNA and fingerprints against Ronnie.\n\n\nTony lives with severe mental illness and was forced to represent himself at trial\n\nIt is unconscionable that the State would force Tony to represent himself at trial and allow this execution to proceed\, given all that is known about the case. \nCall Gov. Lee at 615-741-2001 with the following message: \n“Hi. My name is [your name]. I am calling to urge Gov. Lee to reverse course and halt all plans to execute Tony Carruthers on May 21\, 2026. There are several deeply concerning elements to this case\, including the fact that an individual who participated in the murders said Tony was not involved. This individual pointed investigators to Ronnie Irving — yet they refuse to test the DNA and fingerprints against Ronnie Irving. As one who purports to follow Christian teachings\, it is deeply disappointing that he does not extend these teachings to the individuals condemned to death in the state of Tennessee.” \nREGISTER FOR THE 5/21 VIRTUAL VIGIL BEGINNING AT 9AM CT. \n\nWe are concerned that while the vast majority of states with capital punishment continue on a downward trend of executions\, Tennessee continues to go against trend by carrying on an aggressive execution schedule. \n\nWe are asking the governor to stop this execution by issuing a stay\, and seeking a path to clemency in the case.

SUMMARY:Stop the Execution of Richard Knight in Florida
DESCRIPTION:Richard Knight is scheduled for execution in Florida on May 21\, 2026 for the 2000 murders of Odessia Stephens and Hanessia Mullings. \nAt trial\, despite the fact that there was evidence presented of significant trauma\, medical issues\, and neurological impairment\, the court found no “statutory mitigation”. That is absurd\, given the lifetime of abandonment\, abuse\, sexual violence\, and untreated medical issues that Richard survived. \nThere are a myriad of issues in this case that remain unsolved: \n\nA jury that never heard a complete picture of his life\, mental health\, or health issues\n\nHe was repeatedly sexually assaulted as a child\nAs he grew older\, he developed seizures\, blackouts\, head trauma\, severe headaches—at times so severe that he banged his head on hard surfaces.\n\n\nForensic evidence pointing to an unidentified individual\n\na latent fingerprint left on the blade of the murder weapon that does not match Richard Knight and remains unidentified to this day\nRichard’s team is seeking to run the print through modern AFIS databases to see if the fingerprint can be matched to someone in national systems\n\n\nScientific questions that have never been fully explored\nAnd a rushed process that leaves no time to answer them\n\nThis “fire drill” process raises serious concerns about whether the courts — and the public — have had a full and fair opportunity to evaluate the case before the State carries out an irreversible act.\n\n\n\nThe narrative above was shared by our partners at Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. \nCall Gov. DESCRIPTION:Jeffery Lee is scheduled for execution in Alabama on June 11\, 2026 for the 1998 murders of Jimmy Ellis and Elaine Thompson. \n\nWhile the vast majority of states with capital punishment continue on a downward trend of executions\, Alabama has continued to go against the trend by carrying on with scheduled execution dates.  Additionally\, the State of Alabama has repeatedly shown blatant incompetence in carrying out executions – they need to pause ALL executions to allow for meaningful review of their protocols. \nThe following case information is from www.mercyforjefferylee.com: \nFor over 20 years\, Jeffery Lee has been on Alabama’s death row\, despite a jury of his peers voting 7-5 for a sentence of Life Without Parole. Under the law at the time\, that 7–5 vote was only a recommendation. The final decision belonged to the trial judge\, who chose to impose death despite the jury’s vote for life – a practice Alabama abolished in 2017. \nJeffery’s story is one of profound transformation; today\, he serves as a prison Chaplain and a leader in the Kairos ministry\, dedicating his life to faith and the service of others. However\, the system that sentenced him ignored the jury’s plea for mercy and never heard the full truth of Jeffery’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and severe childhood trauma\, physical and psychological scars that fundamentally impacted his life. \nWe are calling on Governor Kay Ivey to respect the original jury’s verdict and recognize the man Jeffery has become. DESCRIPTION:80-year-old death row prisoner Dominick Occhicone is scheduled for execution in Florida on July 28\, 2026\, for the 1986 murder of Martha Artzner. \nFive jurors voted to spare Dominick’s life\, and even the sentencing court recognized that he was acting under extreme mental and emotional disturbance. His case reflects the devastating consequences of untreated addiction\, emotional crisis\, and human failure—not a problem that another execution can solve. \n\nThis is already the 12th death warrant of 2026\, following an unprecedented execution pace in 2025. Florida led the nation in executions in 2025 by setting its own record for executions\, with Governor DeSantis signing 19 death warrants last year. Let’s make sure Florida does not repeat this record in 2026. \nWhile most states have moved away from the death penalty\, Florida is accelerating executions at an alarming rate. Each warrant signed underscores the state’s embrace of a punishment that is arbitrary\, racially biased\, and out of step with evolving standards of decency.

SUMMARY:Stop the Execution of Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez in Oklahoma
DESCRIPTION:Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez is scheduled for execution in Oklahoma on August 13\, 2026\, for the 2003 murder of Olimpia Fisher. \n\nCarlos accepts his guilt and has shown great remorse for his crime. Mr. Cuesta-Rodriguez’s adolescence was very traumatic. It included growing up in an impoverished and polluted environment in Cuba\, suffering from physical abuse in the home\, being left severely injured and psychologically changed by a bus crash\, and being treated with electroshock “therapy.”\nMr. Cuesta-Rodriguez has suffered from many injuries and traumas that have left him impaired and mentally ill in various ways. He is currently in poor health and suffers from dementia. Despite these alignments\, he is well-behaved\, with group yard privileges. He is over 70 years old and poses no threat while in prison.\nCarlos has reconnected with his Catholic faith. He also maintains relationships with friends and family members\, sending them his cross-stitch artwork. His priest\, friends\, and family members all ask that the board grant clemency.\n\nOklahoma’s aggressive execution schedule marks it as an outlier in its use of the death penalty\, while the majority of other states are on a downward trend of executions. In the last few years\, Oklahoma has been one of only a handful of states that have carried out death sentences\, and it continues to do so\, targeting the poor\, the mentally ill\, and people of color. \nThis particular execution is just one in a series of 25 executions scheduled by Oklahoma in the coming months\, despite serious concerns around the state’s lethal injection protocols and drugs.
