RLC August Book Club: Church Tomorrow? with Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers

Join us for RLC Book Club as we sit with Church Tomorrow?: What the ‘Nones’ and ‘Dones’ Teach Us About the Future of Faith by the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers — a conversation about why younger generations are passing on church, what they’re building instead, and what that means for the future of faith.

The Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers is one of the Episcopal Church’s leading thinkers around 21st-century ministry and mission. The author of several books — including The Church Cracked Open, Radical Welcome, and her latest, Church Tomorrow? (with a foreword by Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry) — she recently wrapped nearly a decade as canon to the Episcopal Church’s Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, with responsibility for guiding the entire denomination’s work on evangelism, racial justice, new ministry development, and environmental stewardship. An honorary canon in the Diocese of New York, she currently serves as Canon in Residence at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church.

Michael Curry is the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church and is passionate about the church rediscovering itself as a movement of Jesus: “Jesus did not establish an institution, though institutions can serve his cause. He did not organize a political party, though his teachings have a profound impact on politics. Jesus did not even found a religion. No, Jesus began a movement, fueled by his Spirit, a movement whose purpose was and is to change the face of the earth from the nightmare it often is into the dream that God intends. . .”
