June is national Gun Violence Awareness month and for the 3rd straight year, RAWtools’ national network of Blacksmiths, Woodworkers, Artists, and Makers are working 1 minute for every life lost to gun violence last year, over 40,000. Most days we will have various makers livestreaming from their workspace on the RAWtools Facebook page.
You can also track our daily progress on Facebook and Instagram @rawtoolsinc and see what everyone is making.
This year, we are focusing on kids. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for kids in the U.S. under the age of 18 – more than cancer, more than car accidents. So, our makers are making items with kids in mind: toys, games, garden tools of just the right size, fidgets, puzzles, and more.
Also check out the new children’s book, Sparking Peace by Teresa Kim Pecinovsky and Hannah Rose Martin, illustrated by Gabhor Utomo. A book about hope and transformation with tips for caregivers about how to talk to kids about gun violence.
We can transform what is broken. Blessed are the Peace-Makers.
