So many have a very confused set of ideas about “the end of the world.” First, I want to present what I consider to be the meaning of “the world.”
It is very important to not view the earth as part of the world. The earth will go on and on for thousands of years longer than the world will exist. “The world” takes place on the earth, but the earth is not a part of “the world.” The Bible says, “the earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof.” It is built on a strong foundation and will remain. Just the world will end.
“The world” can be understood as a group of ideas and systems by which society tries to deal with the various desires, hopes and fears of people. We have politics and leaders, medicine, health care, and doctors, science and research, military and soldiers, religions and churches, teachers and educational institutions, laws and lawyers and judges, economics and money, families, tribes, and nations. These are all systems we mostly embrace to help us cope.
All these systems are established to help us deal with the dynamics that occur among people. For thousands of years, people have believed they are human beings with egos. Egos are self-centered bundles of thoughts and fears claiming to be us. All the systems we have developed are essentially to help manage egos, in one way or another, quite poorly.
We are now becoming aware that we are not human beings, with egos, trying to become mature, successful, fulfilled, noble, and, perhaps, more spiritual. Rather, we are eternal spirits, already lovely, kind, gentle, generous, thoughtful, compassionate, knowledgeable, wise, and holy and pure. We remain as we were created: precious in every way. Once we learn who (Sons and Daughters of our Father) and what (eternal spirits) we really are, we have real opportunity to act that way. It is also very important to discover who and what we are not! We all were raised to believe we are human beings with egos.
In fact, we believe our egos are really the core of who we are. Being right has become more important than love. Our desires and needs are more important that what others might also desire and need. We really believe developing our egos is how we grow and mature and advance. Jesus told us to “say no to the ego,” because he knew it is not who we are.
The end of the world is the end of the systems dominated by the ego. New systems will arise in which people will highly regard others, refuse to take advantage of others, seek to help others rise and prosper, enthusiastically share their wealth with others, seek higher office in order to serve and not to be served, pursue peace in extremely creative ways, appreciate the diversity among us that God has created, and even pursue careers that they love rather than chase green paper. Basically, people will be acting like the lovely eternal spirits they already are!
I can imagine doctors and lawyers, and especially corporate heads, insisting they not get raises and bonuses, asking that the workers’ salaries be raised instead. I can see leaders not accepting titles like reverend, your holiness, bishop, president, CEO, vice president, editor in chief, king, queen, or teacher.
Basically, we will be learning this: No More Me Without You. Israel will embrace their Arab brothers and sisters, the Russians will bless and help their cousins the Ukrainians, the Americans will honor and befriend the Mexicans, the Native Americans, and the Cubans.
We will learn how to identify when we are being our egos and when others are being their egos, but will not react, but rather, respond, not from our egos, but from our true selves, the Eternal spirits we are and will be forever. We will no longer view Jesus as the exception. We will view him as the example of what we all can be and will be and really are.
Competition will be replaced by co-operation. Envy will be replaced by gratitude. Sharing will become commonplace. Forgiveness will be practiced broadly. Kindness and gentleness and caring will replace fear of every kind. How can that be? Because the knowledge that eternal spirits cannot be hurt, nor can they hurt others will be known widely.
People will learn all about identification. If we identify (“make the same”) with our egos, we will live a self-centered life. If we identify with our eternal spirits, we will live an abundant, joyful, peaceful life. Why? Because our spirits are already at peace, joyful, kind, gentle, loving, all-embracing, all-forgiving, taking no offense. We just need to remember who we are and what we are and just be who and what we really are. When Jesus said, “I am the light of the world” and “I am the salt of the earth,” he was teaching us to say it too, not about our egos, but about who we really are and always have been. He rejected the Old Testament title of Lion Of Judah and embraced his eternal nature, Lamb of God. The ego will aways choose to be lion-like, and the eternal spirit that we are will always choose to be like a lamb or a dove or “a mother hen, gathering her chicks under her wings.”
“The meek shall inherit the earth.” THAT IS THE END OF THE WORLD. WELCOME IT!
